Chalten is a very small town, the youngest I know ( born in 1985). Is still under construction, and we think that when the road will be finished, it will boom with all kinds of turists. Right now, only travellers in love with nature drop by.
We arrived in the last week of the season, next week everything will close down and the tourists will go to their homes. It´s too cold to do something else.
We did 2 of the most important routes for trekking:
1. Laguna Torre ( 3 hours) with a beautiful view of Cerro Torre, a mountain that we did not have the luck to see due to the rain clouds. Borja managed to get some photos from a park ranger anyway that we will post on the web. The trek was not very difficult, the views incredible and our final destination was a glaciar lake with peaces of the blue glacier still melting in it. Very cold, we had hurry back to the hostal as soon as we arrived. Only managed to steal some photos.
2. Laguna de los tres (4/5 hours) even more beautiful than the first, but with a killer final 500 meters. After almost 4 hours of walking through mountains, forests, plains, we had to go up a steep mountain. The final 500 meters took us an hour or so. We almost gave up at one point when we thought it´s beyond us, but I am glad in the end we kept walking. We reached a hidden lake almost from a story that was guarded by three mountains. One of them, the famous Fitz Roy. We managed to take some photos that are not revealing even the third part of that incredible place. Anyway, I hope my bad memory will keep that image as much as possible.
Sooo... we reached the hostel again very very tired. Now we are facing a more than 24 hours travel to Bariloche. Hope to get some sleep.
Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
